Customize Shell Prompt to Show Current Working Directory (PWD) and Current Git branch
# Add the following lines of code to ~/.bash_profile or ~/.profile
parse_git_branch() {
git branch 2> /dev/null | sed -e '/^[^*]/d' -e 's/* \(.*\)/ (\1)/'
}
export PS1="\u@\h \[\033[32m\]\w\[\033[33m\]\$(parse_git_branch)\[\033[00m\] $ "
This updates your prompt to show the current working directory and Git branch in every terminal (IDE or standalone).

This has been a life-saver, keeping me from constantly running pwd and git branch.
